WEEK 3
Dave Wilson and John again, same as last week tacking practice, we are getting better.
WEEK 4
Dave and John with me again, one big difference the wind is howling! And after a couple of laps Dave abandoned ship, got on the rescue boat and left us to it. Really flying! By the end of the session only a couple of dinghies have managed not to capsize and we are one of them, but even so there seems to be a worryingly large amount of water in the bottom. Chloe passed us! Learned to gybe in the classroom.
WEEK 5
John and I have now paired up, and will carry on as a team for the rest of the course and the races after. Strong winds again and with a figure of eight course we are let out alone to put all our skills into practice. After a couple of great hours an incident occurred that can only be described as piracy or sabotage! Imagine the scene, we were leaning right over going flat out with our turning point in sight when Phil and Debra Crosby appeared sailing straight for us! We couldn't turn to port because we would hit them, so attempted to turn to starboard and get out of their way, all this did was stuff our dinghy and over we went! Now I refer you to several points above, first they were right the water is freezing and secondly it looked easier in the video. Chloe passed us.
WEEK 6
No wind at all, so had a theory evening in the classroom.
WEEK 7
Winds so strong only two dinghies stayed floating, one of them us! And conditions were so bad, Phil & Debra's mast broke. There was a race planned but it was cancelled. Chloe on holiday so she couldn't pass us
WEEK 8
Four races, got three firsts and a third! Although I should mention the numbers were reduced because the match was on the telly. Really enjoying it! Think we all have passed the course but will find out soon.
