FOR SALE RS400 Number 840 - £3700 Contact_FullName: Tim Bartle
Heavy Duty Rapide Combi-Trailer,
A-Frame design, galvanised, good condition. Optional Twin Deck
arrangement to carry two boats: the manufacturer has provided the
launching trolley with a demountable second deck. I have no information as
to whether this is a standard model or a bespoke unit, but either is
possible.
While this unit will meet my requirements it
is heavier than I actually need, and I would prefer a lighter unit.
I require a combi-unit to carry my second GP14, i.e. just one boat, and
would do a straight swop for a suitable one in similarly good condition.
Originally designed to carry a gunwale-hung boat, and with the
second boat on the upper deck, I would guess upside down. However I have
now constructed a shaped full-width aft chock to suit a GP14, and I am
about to paint it; as soon as I have done so I will pad it and fit it.
This is strong and secure, but fits straight on top of the original
arrangement, and will be readily removable so as to reinstate the original
layout. Alternatively I also have some brackets to support rollers (if
desired) which can be included, to adapt trailer to a different boat.
The chap I bought it from (its second owner) told me
that the trailer was designed to carry two Wayfarers, and that the original
owner regularly used it for that purpose, but while he said that in good
faith he was not a sailing man and I think he was genuinely mistaken about
this. Nonetheless it is a substantial heavy duty unit and probably well
capable of carrying a Wayfarer, i.e. one Wayfarer, or two boats of a
somewhat shallower design, but without actually measuring up I doubt that
the upper deck is high enough to allow room for a Wayfarer underneath; it
is certainly not high enough to mount the upper deck while carrying a GP14
on the lower deck.

The Newsletter Editor is looking for a congenial and compatible crew to sail with him in this year’s GP14 Class Association Cruising Week (July 30th - August 4th) at Sligo, on the west coast of Ireland. Possibly also for the Anglesey event, although I think at this stage that I have a crew lined up for that, and if necessary I would sail that one single-handed. On the other hand if I end up with an excess of crews I expect by then to have two boats available, unless of course I am offered a price for Strait Laced that tempts me to sell her. Details of the Sligo event are on the event website, www.gpworldssligo.com (select Event Entry and follow the links), and for a flavour of the type of event see also my write-up of last year’s event in our own Autumn 2005 Newsletter (available on this website; from home page click on News, then in 7th paragraph click on Archive, then under “Newsletters” the link for Autumn 2005).In view of the cost of the event, notably the ferry cost, I would be looking to split the total cost evenly (2 or 3 ways, as applicable), but to maximise the value for money I am thinking of possibly making it a two-week rather than a one-week trip, and using the extra time to see something of other parts of Ireland and to sail in other waters. I need to take a decision moderately urgently on whether to go, not least because this competes for the time slot (and the funds) with something else, so early responses are requested from any interested members. If there are more than 2 compatible takers, again I may well have a second boat available ... ... Contact ref09@liverpoolsailingclub.org for details
